Mestia is the administrative center of the Svaneti region and is one of the most remarkable places of Georgian architecture and ethnography. The mountain architecture and defensive fortresses, known as Svan towers, are well preserved here. They are about 20-25 meters high and have 4-5 floors. The top floor looks like a crown and served as a guarding lookout back in the day. Because of their unique architecture, they are enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Mestia is also rich in various cultural sites. The most notable is Svaneti History and Ethnography Museum, where you’ll find some of the rarest and unique treasures of the country.
